Choosing the right type and style of flooring for a pet friendly home can be difficult with so many flooring products available. When determining what type of floor will work best for you and your home, consider the room’s function, the traffic flow and the length of time you plan to stay in your home. Ask your flooring contractor or contact Urban Referrals.com to learn about available products in your price range.
Hardwood Flooring
For hardwood, try stranded bamboo, it is the hardest wood type material and the larger dogs will have a tougher time scratching it. Bamboo is a fast growing and fast maturing plant, unlike hardwoods. This makes it a wonderful ‘green’ flooring product as well. Average cost is $5.00-$6.00 a square foot*.
Tile
Ceramic tile, Dura- ceramic products, and vinyl are good choices for households with pets. Laminates and vinyl are also relatively inexpensive for those on a budget. Vinyl is about $2.5-$4.5 per sq ft* and. Dura-ceramic is about $12 a square foot installed*. Ceramic tile will cost you approx $13-$16 per square foot*.
Carpet- Frizee, or cut pile Berbers are very in now and are good pet friendly products. Avoid loop carpets like standard Berbers, where your pet’s nails or claws may catch and pull. A good Frizee or cut pile Berber is about $3-$4 per sq ft installed*.
